From Wiki
A dagger worth $25,000 has been hidden somewhere in metropolitan Las Vegas and the clues are within the mystery, Vegas Die. You read the book for both the mystery and then for the money. There are lots of clues within, some to solve the killings, others to find the dagger worth $25,000. And what do the card symbols mean and why does the author put in addresses and telephone numbers? Enjoy a truly multi-media interactive book, where the reader participates.
Vegas Die by Stephen Grogan appears, so far, to be a legitimate Armchair Treasure Hunt. The author has indicated that he is hopeful it is a success as he would like to follow it up with additional titles. He has termed the book a Quest Mystery.
Possible Puzzles
- Card Suit Puzzles - The book contains 67 chapters split into 4 parts. At the end of some (but not all) chapters a list of card suit symbols appear. It is currently believed that the symbols collected from each of the 3 parts (Part 4 has no symbols) in the book comprise a cipher. Part 2 has been solved by morse code and using a similar approach has yielded interesting but uncertain results from parts 1 and 3.
- Napkin Puzzle - On page 336 a picture of a napkin is shown with some sort of "code" written on it along with a picture of The Sands hotel/casino.
Possible Clues Within the Book
- Quick References - A page listing short lines from the book that likely have some meaning to Questors
- Phone Numbers - Phone numbers that appear in the book.
- Twin's Songs - meaningless or lyrics with a purpose?
Meta
The author, Stephen Grogan, has made these statements regarding this hunt:
- The dagger will be exchanged for $25,000 cash as the dagger itself is of little value.
- Anyone can potentially solve the mystery regardless of their location, but suggests a trip to Las Vegas should be an expected necessity to ultimately find the dagger. Alternativley, a written solution can be submitted describing the location within 15ft.
- Anyone worldwide can claim the prize as there are no U.S. residency or citizenship eligibility constraints.
- No laws need to be broken to recover the hidden dagger.
